Hi Kristin,

I love that you've chosen not to have cell phones. Your children will really benefit from your not being distracted in that way. One of the things I did regularly with my kids when they are little was to go on "nature walks." They each brought little buckets or paper bags and collected treasures. It helped them to notice their surroundings, even if we were just walking down our street. I look forward to more of your wisdom on the Live Your Legend message board.

I really enjoyed reading this post at this moment. Having two young children, I have realized the importance of being in the moment. I have struggled greatly with this life value. It is part of being grateful. Letting other things interfere with what is really important. I'm glad to say that we have not committed to having cell phones. Although it would be convenient, it has given us the opportunity to have a greater connection with our children without the possibility of devoting other time consuming activities to the phone.

I also liked how you helped your children notice the finer things around you in life and to appreciate them. It is a great reminder as we sometimes forget and take them for granted.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and insights. Enjoyed reading.

This post really resonated with me. When I remember to be mindful and grateful for even small things like a child's exuberance on the park swings I pass each day, time slows and the world sort of blooms and expands. Thanks for the reminder, Melinda! And I loved the picture of Memorial Church.
