Coaching helps people who are functioning well get to an even higher level in their lives, whereas therapy helps people move from dysfunction to function. Coaching does not delve much into the past, except where necessary, but instead focuses on the present and the future, whereas therapy focuses on the past to help the patient function better in the present. Coaching uses a variety of tools to help get clients unstuck and inspired, whereas therapy relies on a lot of emotional work to help the patient understand him/herself. Coaching is often more short-term, such as 3-6 months or 6-12 months, whereas therapy can last for years. Finally, therapists focus on processing feelings, whereas coaches focus on removing barriers to achieving goals.
Questions + Answers
Everyone! We all need people in our lives—preferably who are not related to us—who can be our advocates and cheerleaders, who can really listen without having an agenda, who can take our dreams seriously.
I specialize in working with women who feel stuck in care-taking roles and need the time, permission, and energy to put their dreams front and center again. I have worked, however, with a range of clients from 12 year-old students to 60 year-old executives. I coach clients on getting unstuck and creating the time and space to follow through on their dreams, through powerful questions, visualization, values clarification, goal setting and time management.
I coach most clients 3x per month—with one week off for travel/vacations etc. I can coach short-term or long-term or anything in between. (Please see packages.) Many clients find that they benefit from having a longer relationship, and stay with me from 6 months to several years. Although I can meet local clients in person for the initial visit, most clients, as do I, prefer to work by phone or Skype. This eliminates travel time and allows me to coach clients all over the world—whether they are international or I am. (I lived abroad part of 2014 and coached clients in the States while I was in Australia, New Zealand and Japan.) All calls are initiated by and paid for by the client.
Yes! I offer a 20-minute complimentary call to give you a sense of what coaching is about and to see if we are a good fit.
